Alaska Range, mountain range, southern Alaska. It extends in a generally north-eastern direction from the base of the Alaska Peninsula to the frontier of Yukon Territory, Canada. The Alaska Range averages about 80 km (50 mi) in width; it forms the parting between the Pacific drainage basin of Alaska, on the south, and the Bering Sea drainage basin, on the north and west; the highest peak is Mount McKinley, or Denali, at 6,194 m (20,320 ft), the highest mountain in North America.
