Bohemian Forest (German, Böhmerwald), highland region, rising mainly along the border between the Czech Republic and Germany, and also in Austria. Component ranges of the heavily forested region include the Šumava in Bohemia and the Oberpfälzer Wald in Germany; the highest point is Grosser Arber (1,457 m/4,780 ft) in Germany. The Regen and Vltava (German, Moldau) rivers rise in the Bohemian Forest, and the region is noted for its glassmaking.
