Victoria

Victoria, town in the Seychelles, capital and principal port of the republic, off the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. The town is situated on the north-eastern coast of Mahé Island and is bounded on three sides by low mountains. Its exports include copra, cinnamon bark, and fish. Victoria is also the centre of the country's rapidly developing tourist industry. The nearby airport, completed in 1971, is the only one in the country; while Victoria's deep-water harbour can accommodate large ships with ease. Population 25,000 (2003 estimate).
