Windows Live® Search Results Land's End, peninsula in Cornwall, the furthermost extremity of south-west England. It was formed 270 million years ago and comprises a granite mass which rises 61 m (200 ft) from the sea. Its formation resulted in tin and copper deposits which have been extensively mined. Its core contains many ancient monuments, thought to have been built by the Celts who settled in Cornwall around 900 bc. From Land's End to John o'Groats in Scotland is the longest overland distance in the British Isles: it measures 1,406 km (874 mi).
