Windows Live® Search Results Archilochus (c. 675-635 bc), Greek poet, whose malicious and merciless satires were the scourge of his enemies. Considered the first Greek lyric poet, he was also regarded as the creator of iambic poetry, the poetry of passion and of biting raillery. Only fragments of his compositions have survived.
