Map of Cheviot Hills

Cheviot Hills, range of low mountains, Great Britain, part of the boundary between England and Scotland, extending 56 km (35 mi) in a north-eastern to south-western direction. They are in the Northumberland National Park. The highest point is The Cheviot, or Cheviot Hill (815 m/2,674 ft). Noted for the valuable breed of Cheviot sheep, the range was also the site of historic border warfare. The Teviot and Till Rivers rise in the Cheviots, flowing north-east to join the Tweed; the Esk and Liddel flow south-west to the Solway Firth; and the tributaries of the Tyne (the North Tyne and the Rede) are dammed in their upper courses to form the Kielder Water and Catcleugh reservoirs respectively.
