Oise, river, western Europe, rising in the Ardennes region of southern Belgium. It flows generally south-west into France through the departments of Nord, Aisne, Oise, Val d'Oise, and Yvelines and enters the River Seine near Pontoise. It is 299 km (186 mi) long. In World War I French troops were heavily attacked on the Oise and the last great German effort was made in this area.
