Glendale, city, Los Angeles County, south-western California, a commercial and residential suburb of Los Angeles, at the junction of the San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys; platted 1887, incorporated 1906. The city is a financial centre and includes publishing firms and some light industry. A community college and the well-known Forest Lawn Memorial Park are here. Glendale is the site of the first Spanish land grant (Rancho San Rafael, 1784) in California. Its name was suggested by a landscape artist. Population (1990) 180,038.
