Windows Live® Search Results Marmara, Sea of or Sea of Marmora (ancient Propontis), inland sea, north-western Turkey, connected to the Black Sea by the Bosporus Strait and to the Aegean Sea by the Dardanelles Strait. It separates the European part of Turkey from the Asian part. The sea contains several islands on which are located famous quarries of white marble; the largest island is Marmara (129 sq km/50 sq mi). The sea is 277 km (172 mi) long and has an area of about 11,140 sq km (4,300 sq mi).
