Majuro, coral atoll in the Marshall Islands. This low-lying atoll (maximum elevation 6 m/20 ft) consists of 57 islets which form an elongated oval shape. Three islands—Delap, Uliga, and Darrit, which is also known as Rita—are linked to form a municipality known by its shortened name, D-U-D. This municipality is the nation’s capital. Delap contains government offices, Uliga is the main business area, and Darrit has primary and secondary schools. Majuro is the most Westernized and populated of all the Marshall Islands.
