Lampeter, University of Wales, institution of higher education in Lampeter, Wales. The University of Wales, Lampeter is an accredited institution of the University of Wales, which is its degree-awarding body.

It was founded as St David’s College in 1822 for the training of Anglican priests and is now a liberal arts university. In 1971 it became a constituent institution of the University of Wales as St David’s University College, and changed its name to the University of Wales, Lampeter in 1996. In September 2007, following a revision of the University of Wales’s charter, the University of Wales, Lampeter became an independent institution.

It has 12 academic departments: archaeology and anthropology; the Chinese studies centre; classics; film and media; English; foundation studies; history; management and information technology; philosophy; theology and religious studies; voluntary sector studies; and Welsh.
