Swansea Metropolitan University, institution of higher education in Swansea, Wales. Swansea Metropolitan University is an accredited institution of the University of Wales, which is its degree-awarding body.

The West Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education was formed in 1976 from the Swansea College of Art, the Swansea College of Education, and the Swansea School of Technology. It became Swansea Institute of Higher Education (SIHE) in 1992 and a constituent institution of the University of Wales in 2004. In September 2007, following a revision of the University of Wales’s charter, it became an independent institution. In January 2008 it was awarded university status and became Swansea Metropolitan University.

The university has three faculties—applied design and engineering; art and design; and humanities.
