leaf anatomy of tropical plants: the distinctive arrangement of leaf tissue in some tropical plants, e.g. maize and sugar cane, that contributes to their relatively faster growth in abundant light. It consists of a sheath of tightly packed cells around the vascular bundles, giving a more rapid export of photosynthetic products from the leaf.
