noun  (plural shuttlecocks)
Definition:
 
1. object hit in badminton: a small rounded piece of cork or rubber attached to a cone of feathers that is hit back and forth in badminton and in the old game of battledore

2. subject of argument: something that is continually argued about by two opposing sides
The sovereignty of the island became a shuttlecock between the two countries.
