Definition:

1. inland body of water: a large body of water surrounded by land

2. pool of liquid: a large pool of liquid that has collected or spilled somewhere

A lake of hot grease covered the floor by the cooker.

3. surplus of liquid product: a large surplus of a liquid product, e.g. milk or wine, that is stored and not sold in order to prevent prices from becoming too low, especially in the European Union ( informal )

Cultural Note


	The Lady of the Lake, a poem (1810) by Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott. Set in early 16th-century Scotland, it describes the eventful courtship of Ellen, daughter of outlawed chieftain James of Douglas, who lives at Loch Katrine (the lake of the title). Regarded as one of Scott's finest works, it is admired for its satisfying plot, strong characterization, and charming songs.
