Watergate:

United States political scandal that began with the burglary and wiretapping of the Democratic Party's campaign headquarters in the Watergate Building in Washington, D.C. in June 1972. Investigations into the burglary eventually implicated President Richard M. Nixon and many of his supporters in a variety of illegal acts, and culminated in the first resignation of a US president in August 1974.
