Peasants War:
Increasingly oppressive measures imposed on the lower classes by the clergy and the nobles resulted in the outbreak of the Peasants' War (1524-1526) in Germany and Austria. The revolt was cruelly suppressed without any concessions in Germany. Martin Luther, whose social and economic ideals inspired the rebels, condemned the armed struggle.
