Dreyfus Affair:
The Dreyfuss affair refers to the case of the French army officer of Jewish origin, Alfred Dreyfus, who was wrongly imprisoned on a charge of treason in 1894. Dreyfus was implicated in an attempted cover-up and violent anti-Semitic forces were unleashed in the French army. A volatile political climate ensued on a worldwide scale. The controversy led to a decline in French military might. In 1906 Dreyfus was pardoned.
